The plan by Farrell Building Co. to cluster 220 units and a clubhouse with a pool and tennis courts on Mount Pleasant Road in Newtown’s Hawleyville neighborhood would be just east of Interstate 84’s Exit 9. That is the same area where a Manhattan investor’s plan to build a trucking warehouse on 100 acres was rejected in 2022 after widespread neighborhood criticism and opposition. A New York-based moving company withdrew its controversial proposal in November to build 4.5-acre warehouse near The Summit development. However, the attorney for Clancy Relocation and Logistics said the company intends to resubmit the application. The most anticipated residential development in downtown Danbury should be completed in the New Year, despite the developer missing two deadlines to have the Main Street project built by 2022. The Summit at Danbury is converting to mixed use to include offices, residential and retail.

The former 1.2 million-square-foot headquarters for Union Carbide sat mostly empty for years until developers introduced a vision to turn the massive campus into a mixed-used facility with residential, commercial and retail space. Summit Development purchased the building in 2018 for $17.8 million and have said they plan to create a“city within a city” inside the building.
